About this place
Meat-tempura chuka soba pairs chuka soba with thick-cut pork tempura—a tempting combination of ramen and tempura. The menu also describes it as meat tempura served over kake soba, priced at ¥1,700. For a simpler bowl, chuka soba comes with chashu pork, bamboo shoots, nori and narutomaki for ¥900. Toppings offer other ways to enjoy it: tanuki chuka soba, with crispy tempura bits, is ¥1,000, while a bowl topped with meat tempura and a soft-cooked egg is ¥1,800.
One diner ordered the chuka soba and enjoyed the combination of a deeply savoury broth and noodles with a pleasantly firm bite. They added tempura bits containing aonori seaweed, which brought extra fragrance and a crisp texture.
Spice dishes provide another direction. Alongside pork curry, the menu offers spice-curry tsukemen with salted roast pork. The standard noodle portion is 1.5 portions (200g), with the option to change to 1 or 2 portions. It’s an alternative to the familiar curry-and-rice combination. One diner who tried the curry previously described a mixed plate of beef and prawn curries served separately over barley rice, as well as an assortment of vegetable dishes that could be eaten alongside the curry or on their own. The vegetables include cabbage marinated with lemon and carrot râpée. The menu also notes that the spice level can be adjusted, leaving diners to choose their preferred combination.
Lunch is served from 11:30 to 15:00. In Shimotakaido, the choice is between a bowl of soba and a meal built around spice curry, depending on what you feel like eating.
